The Wedding Couple
I was commissioned to paint this portrait for a couple who had just got married and wanted something unique to capture their special day.
After taking a comprehensive brief I was asked to present two contrasting ideas, one traditional the other contemporary, based on some 120 photographs that were taken on the day of the wedding which took place in the South of France. They chose this more creative option.
The portrait is influenced in style by the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood but it also includes auspicious symbolism from the late medieval period. The lioness represents ‘protection’. On the arm of the sofa, perches a Goldfinch for ‘happiness and prosperity’ and a burning candle behind them for ‘everlasting love’.
